(Emailed to parents June 1, 2017)
Dear LISD Parents and Guardians,
It is official! Today marks the end of the 2016-2017 school year, and we are so proud of all of the hard work and learning your children have demonstrated. It is our privilege to serve them, and their summer break has been hard-earned and is well-deserved!
I wanted to share some information with you that may be helpful to families over the summer.
FREE SUMMER MEALS
First, LISD is hosting free summer meals for all children, ages 1-18, at several locations across our school district. Click here to access information about times and locations. Adults, too, can eat at these locations for a small fee ($1.50 for breakfast; $3.00 for lunch).
LISD SUMMER CAMPS
LISD’s Community Education Department offers a variety of options for summer fun for children. Click here to learn about the summer enrichment camps and other offerings.
LHS will be hosting summer camps for basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis football, volleyball, power and agility (PAC). Please visit our website at lockhartathletics.com to access all camp forms.
EUGENE CLARK LIBRARY READING CAMPS
Speaking of summer fun, the Dr. Eugene Clark Library offers Free reading camps for children ages 2 to 12. Teens (7th-12th grade) are welcome to volunteer. The theme will be “Build a Better World.” Drop by the library at 217 S. Main to register or call as soon as possible at 512-398-3223. The kick-off party for camp will be Friday, June 9, at 10 am. We would like our students to keep reading all summer!
BLUEBONNET TRAILS COMMUNITY SERVICE
Another resource available to Lockhart families is support for children from Bluebonnet Trails Community Services. If you have concerns about your child’s emotional or mental well-being, the 24-hour crisis line you can call for help is 1-800-841-1255. Click here to learn more about Bluebonnet Trails and their operations across the region.
Please note that summer school programming is required by the Texas education Agency for students who are Pre-K and participating in bilingual education, 5th or 8th grade students who did not pass math and/or reading STAAR on the second administration, and high school students who did not pass one or more STAAR End of Course exams. Parents should have already been contacted if this is applicable to your student. If you have questions, please contact:
Karen Nixon (PreK and K bilingual)
Belinda Vasquez (5th grade)
Delia Cruz Fernandez (8th grade and high school)
Laurie Lay (Pride High School and LHS Credit Recovery)
Finally, Lockhart ISD operates on summer hours beginning June 5. Click here to see when the district office and campuses will be open.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and district administration, have a safe and wonderful summer break. We look forward to welcoming your children back to school Wednesday, August 16!
